Winter - The Time to Ski
The name Jackson Hole elicits instant recognition with skiers all around the world. The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at Teton Village has been an international ski destination for over forty years. Many of the world's finest skiers learned the sport here and still call this place home. Make sure you visit Teton Village Sports to demo some Head or Volkl skis.
In addition to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, the powder-skiing mecca of Grand Targhee is just a short drive away. Deep, light snow combined with few crowds and friendly terrain make Grand Targhee a perfect place to visit or a destination in its own right.
The Jackson Hole area is also one of America's premier locations for the burgeoning sport of backcountry skiing. Backcountry skiers can leave the boundaries of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, choose from endless routes off Teton Pass, or challenge the enormous powder fields and giant peaks of Grand Teton National Park.
Our snow piles up deep and stays a long time.

Spring in Jackson Hole
April and May are considered spring in our valley. Some folks call it "mud season", but I've never been able to figure that out. Sure, some days may rain, but that's what makes the valleys turn green and the wildflowers come out.
Hiking in the lower parts of the mountain ranges is spectacular with runoff-swollen streams crashing down the mountainsides and over waterfalls. This is when wildlife appear everywhere as the elk and bison herds return to summer grazing areas.
Ospreys and eagles return to soar above the streams. Swans and geese again paddle the waters. The sandhill cranes return to the valley with their haunting, gravelly call.
I particularly like spring because Jackson is a quiet and sleepy little town those months. The few tourists we have find quiet and solitude everywhere they go.

This is the big time. Practically every recreational activity in Jackson Hole is at its peak during the summer. The mountain wildflowers reach their peak as the high mountain trails open up to allow hikers to view all their glory.
Visitors come from all over the world to view the splendor of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, Whitewater sports, rock climbing, para-sailing, and mountain biking lure the adrenaline junkies while relaxing scenic drives, art galleries, restaurants, and spas appeal to the rest of us.
The days are typically warm and sunny and the nights cool, crisp, and dry. It's the kind of weather and setting that makes folks forget all about those hot, humid, crowded cities back home.
The flyfishing around Jackson Hole ranges from relaxing float trips in a guided drift boat through strenuous backpacking trips to places few fishermen ever see.
